The Ministry of Finance and Comsefaz (the Committee of State Finance Secretaries) issued a joint statement yesterday, March 31, indicating that 80% of Brazil’s states have “signaled positively” toward a subsidy proposal for imported diesel. The mechanism has been under discussion since Friday, March 27. Senator Rodrigo Pacheco will leave the PSD and formally join the PSB today. The move comes amid expectations that the former Senate president will run for governor of Minas Gerais in this year’s election, as part of an alliance with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who is seeking a strong political base in one of the country’s most strategically important states.
