PM Magyar in Berlin, Paris and the MNB headquarters

Immediately after his early Monday visit at the residence of President Sulyok, and the subsequent announcement that Tisza will seek the removal of eight constitutionally independent top public officials, including the President, PM Magyar went over to the MNB headquarters, to see Governor Varga there.There was not any material policy content revealed after that meeting, the main result being the above photo, which Mr. Magyar put out to his facebook page without delay. Quite obviously, this photo must have been intended to demonstrate that Governor Varga and his management of the MNB are not at all on the list of the 'removables'. Instead, as it has been stated expressly, Mr. Magyar's government intends to cooperate with Mr. Varga's MNB, keeping the central bank's independence from the government in high respect all the time.So long as he was there, Mr. Magyar, who does politics rather than exercising power, as Mr. Orbán did, according to a recent comment by a leading domestic political analyst, did not miss the opportunity to show around the people of the internet in a lavatory at the presidential level of the MNB's headquarters building, drawing public attention to the golden-looking toiletries installed there. The latter are reportedly the products of the building's allegedly heavily overpriced, HUF105bn renovation under the Bank's previous management, which was implemented by a firm owned by a close friend of former governor Mr. Matolcsy's son, the latter having been closely associated with the disappearance of several hundred billion forints (HUF500-600bn, to be more accurate) from the MNB's 'educational' foundation and some related organisations.On Tuesday, the ap...
