GlobalSource Partners’ Poland Country Analyst Jan Hagemejer is one of the world’s leading authorities on Poland’s macroeconomics, international trade and structural issues. During his career he has conducted research at the highest levels, including at the Central Bank of Poland.
Based in Warsaw, Dr. Hagemejer is also the President of CASE Center for Social and Economic Research, the premier think tank in Central and Eastern Europe, and is an Associate Professor at the University of Warsaw.
Prior to his tenure at CASE, Dr. Hagemejer served as head of the Structural Analysis Division at the National Bank of Poland, part of Poland’s leading macroeconomic research unit at that institution. He worked at the Center for Global Economic Analysis at Purdue University earlier in his career. His academic work has centered on issues such as firm behavior and productivity, foreign direct investment, privatization, trade liberalization, global value chains, and European integration, focusing on Central and Eastern Europe. He has also conducted extensive research on pension reform and demographics in Poland. His analytical work has involved the current analysis of the business climate and the economic activity of the Polish economy, as well as investment, macroprudential policy, and external competitiveness. He was involved in several policy projects, for example, on the effects of the EU Emission Trading System on the Polish economy, the structural determinants of inflation, the effects of economic sanctions, Brexit, digitalization, territorial impact assessments and regional policies, as well as evaluations of various trade agreements, performed for major public institutions and donors.
Dr. Hagemejer holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Warsaw and an MA in economics from Purdue University.
